This fall, Mr. Wiese (rhymes with peace) is going on an expedition to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania where he plans to install a weather station that measures precipitation, temperature, humidity, and wind.
He was inspired to install the device after watching Al Gore’s documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, in which Mount Kilimanjaro and its receding glaciers were depicted as emblematic of global warming.
“As I watched the film, I wondered if anyone had actually collected data or was doing hard research to back up the film’s premise. In my own research, I found that receding glaciers have less to do with global warming and more to do with overfarming, which causes deforestation,” he said.
