More lowans Look for Heating Costs Assistance | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News, Sports, and Weather | Local News
CEDAR RAPIDS - As we approach colder months, many Iowans already know they can’t afford future heating costs. That’s why more people hope to use the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program or LIHEAP for help. It’s a program that gives households money toward their heating bills during winter months. It also provides a moratorium so those families can’t get the service shut off.

Last year, 7,933 people applied for LIHEAP. This year, already 9,592 people have applied. That’s more than a 20% increase.
