The Climate Sceptics (TCS) Blog: Green Madness - Rising Tide of Idiocy
Senator Lee Rhiannon has ties with this group. Will we see condemnation by her of this action?

In fact, on her official Senator site today we see the following twitter:
leerhianon: Newcastle Coal port closed down by Rising Tide activists. Another courageous protest for real action on #climatechange. #mining
Far from condemnation! The Greens Senator is supporting illegal activity!
As one of our party members says: "I find it difficult to reconcile an Australian politician with a group that disrupts legal trade in the Port of Newcastle, as well as trying to shut down essential services such as an electrical power generation facility in the Hunter Valley last year."

Kolbert has been named a recipient of a 2010 Heinz Award for educating the public on environmental issues.
...
Working for a magazine with a long history of environmental reporting, Kolbert -- admittedly no expert before she first tackled the subject -- saw a chance to write about a topic deserving of closer attention.
...
And her desire to find a compelling story has taken Kolbert all over the world, from a small Alaskan island with fewer than 600 residents to a desolate ice sheet in Greenland she said was like "being on the moon."

Kolbert acknowledges that there has been a lull in the interest in environmental issues recently, while conflicting media coverage and what she calls "faux scandals" have led to growing skepticism.

"We keep going around and around in circles with people, so they don’t know what to believe," said Kolbert.

Patrick Hunt, of Stanford University in California, who is trying to find where Carthaginian general Hannibal invaded Italy in 218BC with an army and elephants, says there is now an alarming rate of thaw in the Alps: "This is the first summer since 1994 when we began our field excavations above 8,000ft that we have not been inundated by even one day of rain, sleet and snow flurries. I expect we will see more ice patch archaeology discoveries."
Sept 2010 | Chucking it down in The Alps
Up to 70cm of snow has fallen this week on some northern Alpine glaciers.

The Austrian resort of Solden is hoping to open a month earlier than planned, this weekend on September 4th.

It follows the heavy snowfall there; it's currently got a 61cm base.
