But here’s the bad news. Powering the world with breezes and sunbeams is a lovely idea. Someday, assuming certain technological breakthroughs, it might even be possible. But at the moment, a modern industrial society in which our food supply is safe and secure, in which premature babies survive rather than perish, in which toddlers no longer succumb to smallpox and polio, in which we no longer talk about training children to endure hunger and thirst for their own good – that society requires cheap, robust, reliable energy. A great deal of that energy currently comes from coal, gas, and oil.
A new "in science we trust" poll is out surveying the online readership of 'Scientific' American and Nature with some eye-opening results. The purpose was to find out whether the "public" still trusts scientists on controversial issues in the wake of climategate and other recent scientific scandals. Even amongst the "highly educated" online readership, many of whom are scientists themselves, the poll results show that trust in scientists to provide accurate information on climate change couldn't make it over the 'trust' hump and were far away from 'highly trust.'Roger Pielke Jr.'s Blog: Munich Re Goes too Far

Europe is doing “so well” with the success of it’s carbon trading that some people there have given up wait for the rest of us to join them voluntarily and decided to try threats and intimidation.
It’s another lesson in why trading schemes are so dog-messy to unravel once they are in place.
