Question: Why should anyone care a whole lot about James Cameron's opinion on oilsands?

Hollywood director James Cameron tours Alberta oilsands operation
“I think it’s impossible to expect what’s going on out here,” the Avatar director told reporters Tuesday morning, after about an hour at the Syncrude site. “You can look at pictures of it, but until you’ve flown over it and seen the scope and scale of it, you don’t realize what an enormous undertaking it is.”

Cameron, whose impressions of the oilsands could have a substantial influence on how the industry is perceived worldwide, arrived at Syncrude around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday via helicopter from Fort McMurray.

On Wednesday, he’ll conclude his three-day trip by flying to Edmonton for a 10:30 a.m. meeting at the legislature with Premier Ed Stelmach.

Stelmach changed his travel plans returning from an Ottawa energy conference to attend the get-together. The meeting is expected to be at least an hour long.
