It shouldn’t come as a surprise to any historian that conservatives are eager to distance themselves from scientific rigor. The Enlightenment in Europe was a movement young America rejected, choosing to embrace the religions they carried from Europe, seeking freedom from persecution; but in recent years, when such scientific advances are impossible to refute, they’re finding a way, persecuting those who choose to accept a heightened understanding of how the world works.
Canada: Government can help farmers handle ugly harvest
The wet growing season has generated unprecedented disease levels in all crops. The weeks of wet harvest weather is causing bleaching, sprouting and wrinkled seed coats in the cereals and pulses.

Now, a heavy frost has laid waste to any crops that were immature. Canola is likely to be the hardest hit, but there will also be quality loss in many wheat and oat crops. Most chickpea fields were likely devastated, since they were just too green when the freezing temperatures arrived.

Saskatchewan is going to have one of its smallest crops in the past 20 years. It is also likely to be one of the lowest-quality crops.

The board sided with the department Monday by approving a motion to strike testimony from one expert who was scheduled to speak on behalf of the Coalition of Arizona/New Mexico Counties for Stable Economic Growth, which opposes the state's plan.

The department argued the witness misrepresented himself and lacked credentials to testify.
