Amazing pictures that show why summer is snow joke for polar bears | Mail Online
Shocking pictures of the animals struggling to find crucial sea ice during winters on the Arctic sea ice are regularly used as a world warning against global warming.
But these never-before-seen images show the savage after-effect a poor hunting season has on the bears, who return to land hungry when the sea ice melts.

'Seal blubber is fundamental to their existence and they just cannot get that nutrition anywhere else.'
In a heart-rending twist Dr Derocher feels as the sub-Arctic and Arctic sea ice continues to disappear more and more polar bear populations around the world will turn to the foraging behaviour. But it will be a last ditch attempt to claw on to life.
'Seeing them roaming grassy plains and trying to eke out an existence on measly food that cannot sustain them is the future of the polar bear,' he said.
'It is the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come for world leaders.
'The sad truth is that the bears are just not adaptable enough. Some theories out there suggest that they will become terrestrial and learn how to survive without the seal blubber.
'Our research suggests that as their habitat disappears, so will the bears. They will hold on for as long as they can and then will simply die out.'
