Huge crowd of youth descend on Vancouver's Rogers Arena for WE Day
An estimated 18,000 students and educators packed Rogers Arena in Vancouver to rally behind WE Day, a daylong event of motivational speeches by former U.S. vice-president Al Gore, activist and actor Martin Sheen, U.S. civil rights activist Rev. Jesse Jackson, Paralympian Rick Hansen and entertainment by Canadian rockers Hedley and the Barenaked Ladies.
...
But it was Gore, Nobel laureate and subject of the Oscar-winning documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, who was the real rock star of the day.
As he entered the auditorium, the excitement was palpable as teens jumped up — many of them onto their chairs — and flashing cameras went off throughout the arena.
“Never ever doubt for one second that you can change the world,” Gore told the teens.
In a rousing speech filled with calls to protect the environment, Gore urged the young activists to lead the charge in finding solutions to renewable energy.
