Fraudster Michael Mann now getting legal advice?

A GOP-controlled House would attack the EPA and climate science - latimes.com
Like officials within the administration, scientists around the country who expect to be investigated by Issa and others are getting legal advice on how to best protect themselves. Among them is Michael E. Mann, professor of meteorology at Penn State University and one of the researchers who developed the "hockey stick" graph that shows a recent spike in global temperatures.

Issa named Mann in a letter to the EPA as a scientist whose work was not "unbiased, accurate or reliable."

"I don't think we can cower under the politically motivated attacks by the forces of anti-science, which includes prominent politicians who are in the pay of the fossil fuel industry," Mann said in a telephone interview about his approach to possible congressional investigations.

"One prepares for this by doing one's best to get the truth out because we have nothing to hide as climate scientists: We can stand proudly on our research," he said.

let the games begin//if not "global warming" what is the next crisis to come down the pike????

If anyone is "anti-science" it is the scientist who fudges data then makes personal attacks on anyone who challenges him. A true scientists does not need to coax the data into conformance with their personal political interests and can defend his work without fabricating motives behind those who question the research.

If Mann has nothing to hide why did he store data in a file marked "BACKTO_1400-CENSORED" and why does he need a "trick" to "hide the decline"?

Mann is wise to seek legal advice -- he needs it.

Mann should be prosecuted for fraud and forced to repay every dime of taxpayer money he has ever received -- starting with the $2.4 million he received in so-called "Stimulus" funds.

Michael Mann has obviously seen my interview with RT on Climate Fools Day. I warned him last year my legal associates and I are coming after him. Finally we are gaining momentum in persuading political leaders of the need to investigate all these junk scientists that appear to have fraudulently obtained millions in taxpayer monies. If Mann is truly innocent of climate fraud then he's got nothing to fear from our investigations. However, we expect him to persist in his claims that his metadata is 'confidential' and he will continue to decline to show it. Well, let him say that when we start to issue subpoenas.

"...forces of anti-science..." -- sorry, Mann, we see right through that little gem of yours-- we are the forces of anti-propaganda, anti-fraud, and anti-eugenics.....

This is a big claim for someone too afraid to sign their own name to their opinions.

Man up.

Then this "scientist" comes up with this & has the unmitigated nerve to say this:
"One prepares for this by doing one's best to get the truth out because we have nothing to hide as climate scientists: We can stand proudly on our research," he said. Go get him, John Sullivan and let us know if you need funds to pursue this since Mann, Hansen and the other lying, self serving "scientist" need to be exposed for what they are and make the liberal biased press eat crow.

David,

Ooh, looks like I hit a nerve. :)

Regarding your cheap dig at the anonymous appellation, I simply didn't have time earlier to create a Google profile.

Now if you have any serious objection to what I said, let's hear it.

I don't even know who "tide" is, or what you have said before.

As I said: Man up. Stop hiding behind anonymity.

"John" (another coward afraid to sign his real name):

What lies (exactly) do you attribute to Mann and/or Hansen and/or any other climate scientist.

Please spell them out.

David,

Oops! Forgot to enable my profile for viewing.

In any case, it's pretty lame to avoid issues with hollow charges of "hiding behind anonymity." It seems you have a bit in common with the anti-scientist Mann. :)

His hockey stick graph has been utterly demolished by the most respected and accomplished statisticians the world has to offer and has been refuted by top notch scientists. Yet Mann can only defend his "work" by personal attacks and charges of challengers being in the pockets of big oil.

And you're suggesting that is science? LoL!

It's not lame at all. If you don't have the balls to make your opinions known in an honest fashion, why should you get any respect?

What are you afraid of, anyway?

Tide: Who is "Tide?"

Are you Tom Nelson? Or are you someone else?

Just sign your real name to your posts, like honest people do.

I am the John in the other post and I had included my full name that is John D. Swallow, using my Google account. This is the first time that I have posted on this exemplary site, "Climate Depot", that exposes this AGW for what it is, a total scam. How stupid to try to explain the earth's climate by saying that a trace gas, CO2, that makes up .038% of the total atmosphere, is the driving force regarding what the climate does? I have seen nothing that Dave Appell has posted to be of any value and that includes his name.

"I don't think we can cower under the politically motivated attacks by the forces of anti-science, which includes prominent politicians who are in the pay of the fossil fuel industry," Why do these unethical people always make statements like this? Why would these industries have to buy favor from anyone when there is nothing in existence now or in the future, other than nuclear, to take the place of carbon for a source of reliable and cheap energy?

David Appell,

What is behind your obsessive need to know the identity of those who disagree with you? Are you compiling an enemies list? Do you have plans for retribution? Or is your silly quest to know everyone's identity simply the only straw man pony you have to ride in this rodeo?

David or whoever you are,

For an alleged "science writer" you sure seem to be clueless about how real world blogs work.

You seem to be defending the practice of corrupt science by creating a cheap straw man. Hmm, sort of like Michael Mann. Say, that wouldn't be your real identity would it? :)

Folks, best not to continue to get drawn into David Appell's trap. He's sucking air out of the conversation and changing the subject.

Appell is well known in the Pacific Northwest as a somewhat notorious defender of Mann and all things warmest. His understanding of science apparently is pretty weak and roundly criticized by physicists, meteorologists et al. In letters to the editors of publications of for his stories, a common refrain is "i can't believe this guy is a scientist" owing to the decidedly 'unscientific' tone.

Appell did a major snarky hit job on Prof. Lewis or the APS resignation, leading James Delingpole in the Telegraph to question 'who is THIS guy?!' when referring to Appell.

My posting will generate more venom from Appell. I won't respond, and that's not because I'm doing a drive-by. I just won't get caught up in the sideshow. Meanwhile, back to Michael Mann!
