Clinton focuses speech in Taiwan on global warming, social inequality - CNA ENGLISH NEWS
Taipei, Nov. 14 (CNA) Unless people make quick changes to their consumption patterns and lifestyles, the issues of global warming and social inequality will become so severe that there will be severe repercussions in the future, former U.S. President Bill Clinton warned in a speech in Taipei Sunday night.

"Think about how our children and grandchildren will live if we don't increase equality and opportunities in the world, " said Clinton.

He urged people to take serious actions to become responsible world citizens by helping decrease disparities in wealth and increase the rate of recycling and reuse.

Clinton arrived in Taipei on Sunday afternoon for a 24-hour whirlwind trip as part of a speaking tour in Asia sponsored by a Singaporean company.

In his speech, he warned of the consequences of global warming, and said every island nation in the world, such as Taiwan, must confront the potential threat of a rising sea levels.

Unless there is a massive overhaul of people's lifestyles, there could be "social, political, and even military" repercussions, he contended.
