Record low temperatures across eastern Australia
CLOUD and showers have been the blame for record cold temperatures from the northeast tropics through to southeastern Australia, but warmer conditions are on the way.
Cool, moist southerly winds maintained a blanket of low cloud over eastern New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and southeast parts of South Australia, leading to prolonged cool weather.
For Melbourne this makes it the coldest start to November in 13 years, having not reached above 19 degrees for four days. Adelaide has also stayed below 20 degrees for the first four days, the longest November cold spell in 11 years.
