In a new twist to a strange political year, Ms Gillard will next week hold a meeting with a university student dressed up in an elephant suit.

The ''Climate Elephant'', create by the Australian Youth Climate Coalition, became a minor celebrity during the federal election campaign by following Ms Gillard and Liberal leader Tony Abbott around the country urging them to tackle climate change.

The PM made a promise using Twitter to have a meeting if she won the election.

''ClimateElephant, if I win you have a standing invitation to come to meet with me in Parliament House for a chat and a cuddle. JG'' she said the day before the poll.
