Gillard and Climate Change Minister Greg Combet on the other hand appear captured by an intellectual argument around climate change which suggests to voters that if they don't believe that a carbon tax is the only way to tackle it then they are stupid.

This comes across as arrogant, considering they haven't yet explained how it will work. And this is what scares Labor MPs, many of them now believing a carbon tax will consign them to defeat.
