Here’s a challenge for Greenpeace, put up or shut up.A New Ark for Humanity: Floating Hotel Could Defy Rising Sea Levels - SPIEGEL ONLINE - News - International
In my other life as a writer, the unforgettable rule of telling a good story is to ‘show, not tell’. It’s time for Greenpeace, the NRDC, Sierra Club et al to do just that – stop preaching and show us that what you demand for the rest of us is possible.
Design and build a small town that relies only on your approved energy sources. Populate it with as many thousands of well-meaning hippies you can find and show us all how life is under the Big Green thumb. Even on a small scale, say a few thousand people in a few hundred homes, for a couple of years. Big Green could raise the cash to undertake such an event – organizations like GE and others might throw free tech at the idea just for the publicity. If it works, you get to point to Hippieville and say “see, it’s possible, we did it.”
I realize that such an idea is radical in that it means actually doing something other than inconveniencing people or climbing things that don’t belong to you, but that’s my challenge to the hippies. Show us, or get out of the way.
The rising sea waters caused by global warming have inspired a Russian architect to design a hotel that could be built on water as well as land. The eco-friendly "Ark" could be constructed in just a few months anywhere in the world, the designer says.Interview: David Suzuki at 75 | rabble.ca
It turns out we don't ever have to change our minds because there's so much information that if you want to believe global warming is crap you can find dozens of websites saying it's junk science, it's not happening. All you have to do is read the National Post; you'll never have to change your mind. It turns out we have too much information; you can believe any crazy idea you want without ever analyzing the information. "Ah, global warming, pile of crap. I found a website that says there are all these scientists saying, "blah, blah, blah."
We're in a period that is really terrifying because a great number of the global warming skeptics are basically undermining the science. They're saying, "These scientists have their own agenda, "climategate," all this other stuff. You can't trust science." If we're at a point where we can't even trust science, we're in deep trouble because then you say the Koran says this, the Bible says this, Rush Limbaugh says this, Glenn Beck, Ann Coulter. You know, the Competitive Enterprise Institute, the Fraser Institute. Is that where we're going to go to because we don't want to face the reality of the world?
