"Our hospitals, homes, and economy depend on an energy infrastructure that will be increasingly disrupted by extreme weather events related to climate change," said Amanda Staudt, NWF climate scientist and author of the report, in a statement. "Now is the time for American innovation to rethink how we produce and distribute energy in a more resilient way."

Parties battled to show their green credentials today, ahead of a debate marking Climate Change Day.

Candidates Sarah Boyack (Scottish Labour), Patrick Harvie (Scottish Greens), Iain McGill (Scottish Conservatives) and Shirley-Anne Somerville (SNP), and Scottish Liberal Democrats MP Mike Crockart will go head to head in tonight’s event, organised by Stop Climate Chaos Scotland.
