Mr Smith says in his book, which was launched in Sydney by Bindi Irwin, that like the period before WWII, a disaster was looming.
"That one error in not taking early action against Hitler resulted in great misery for humankind and between 30 and 60 million people losing their lives," he said.
"I have a feeling that a similar lack of action now could result in far greater hardship and loss of life for the human race."
