Chris Mooney | The Heartland Institute: Undermining Science in the Name of the "Scientific Method"
Meanwhile, Heartland also claims these mainstream scientists are making a claim to “scientific certainty” when they aren’t. Scientific certainty is literally an oxymoron, a contradiction in terms. We may try to approach it but we never get there, and the IPCC has never said the science of climate is “certain.”Rajendra Pachauri « ClimateQuotes.com
Heartland is thus misrepresenting its opponents--ironically claiming that they possess “certainty” when really, it’s Heartland that's willing to blithely to toss aside the idea that humans are causing global warming, despite the weight of expert opinion. If that’s not unwarranted certainty, I don’t know what is.
"There is, even today, a Flat Earth Society that meets every year to say the Earth is flat. The science about climate change is very clear. There really is no room for doubt at this point." - Source
"I realized very soon after I started looking into climate change that this is obviously going to be the most difficult challenge that the human race is going to face."
"The Fourth Assessment Report of the IPCC has clearly brought out that the warming of the climate system is unequivocal. I think there is no reason for anyone to doubt that climate change is for real."
"It is critical that government...move with a sense of urgency. We don't have a moment to lose, and if we want to solve the enormous range of problems we are going to be confronted with as a result of climate change, then we'd better start moving fast..."
"As the science in the IPCC Fourth Assessment report clearly demonstrates, there is no leeway for delay or denial any longer." - Source
"Global warming and climate change are likely to have many other consequences. There would be health implications on account of changes in the range of disease vectors such as mosquitoes and water-borne pathogens, and decreases in water quality and air quality... What is more, fire, drought, pest infestation, invasive species, storms and coral bleaching will lead to severe damage to ecosystems." - Source
"We can see that the science is getting clearer, the gaps in our knowledge are certainly filling up, the certainty with which we can make projections is getting higher, and therefore I think the time has come for the global community to take action."

"the IPCC has never said the science of climate is 'certain.'"
Perhaps that's true but they did say that anthropogenic climate change is unequivocal. I used to be a climate alarmist and I was convinced that CC was caused by human activity, that is, until I actually read the UN IPCC AR4 report. The press release was a huge media orgy, with over 200 reporters from all over the world, speaking all languages. The IPCC stated that it was unequivocal; the AR4 report proved it and the time for debate had ended, it was time to take climate action. I downloaded it and I was absolutely stunned, the AR4 report was one wishy-washy equivocation after another. Virtually nothing in it was unequivocal, let alone the ultimate conclusion. The report actually said there was a 1 in 10 chance that climate change was NOT caused by human activity. I could not believe the disconnect between what was said at the media release and the actual report. That’s when I really started to question and investigate climate science more thoroughly. It took about 6 months before I realized I wasn’t an AGW Believer anymore, I was now a skeptic. I’ve been reading the science ever since and my opinion remains unchanged.
