Jane's prime mates in fight to save the planet
''The backdrop to all the sound that you hear,'' Taronga Zoo's director, Cameron Kerr, said over the din of 17 chimpanzees demanding breakfast, ''is one of the greatest mass extinctions since the loss of the dinosaurs''.
As Goodall entertained 2½-year-old Sule with a stuffed toy, she told the Herald chimpanzees had become vital in the fight against global warming.
''The most efficient and cheapest way of slowing down global warming is to protect and restore the tropical rainforests. Saving the chimpanzee's natural habitat is extremely important. All these problems are so interconnected, and we need every possible way that we can to address the plight of the planet today.''
