The blogospheric auditors (mostly on the skeptical side, but DeepClimate audits the skeptical auditors) are bringing much needed probity to the science, its assessments, and the supporting institutions.  The climate establishment is elitist in that it doesn't like its "authority" questioned by people that do not have equal academic standing
