Combet says the principal concerns are those about cost of living and jobs, the very aspects that the release of the carbon pricing package earlier this month were designed to address. Other concerns, such as the environmental effectiveness of the policy, are subsidiary.
"Abbott is running a pretty successful fear campaign," Combet admits. "It is not based in fact or reality, but that's politics. That's what you've got to deal with."
