ASU experts say climate change [hoax] outreach needed
Overpeck and Buizer expressed frustration that the magnitude of climate change has not resonated with the public or with the state and national government.

"We've been pounding away for decades on this message," Buizer said, "and it just doesn't seem to be going as quickly as possible."

Overpeck reminded the audience of the record-breaking heat Arizonans have endured this summer, and said those temperatures will hardly compare to what they could reach in the near future.

"You don't like 110 degrees? Wait for a few decades when it's 120 degrees during the summer," he said.

Near the end of the panel, [forum moderator Sander van der Leeuw, dean of ASU's School of Sustainability] the crowd's attention with his opinions on sparking awareness of science and sustainability throughout the community.

Knowledge of these topics is necessary for the university and public, beginning with students from kindergarten through high school, he said.
