Maybe Someone Should Make a Documentary About Documentarians and the Press? - NYTimes.com
Diane Weyermann, an executive vice president of Participant Media, which backs avowedly activist films, shortly afterward described “a whole lot of press” as having helped sell the message behind movies like “Food, Inc.,” an expose of the food industry, and “An Inconvenient Truth,” the global warming film backed by Participant.

Here’s the problem: Activist documentarians, by and large, shoot films that are calculated to enforce a point of view. Journalists, if they’re doing their job right, are skeptics who are always supposed to question the behavior, motives and validity of their subjects, including that of well-meaning documentarians who might overreach in the service of what they believe to be a good cause.

It was a little unnerving to see the press described, in effect, as an arm of the advocacy business.
