Healing the planet: Warmist scientists utilize two icebreakers that only hold 1.4 million gallons of fuel each

USCGC POLAR SEA (WAGB 11)
It's beenhome ported in Seattle since its commissioning. Polar Sea has sailed all seven seas, crossed the Arctic
Ocean, circumnavigated Antarctica, and visited ports in 24 different foreign countries. On Aug. 22, 1994, the
Polar Sea became the first American Surface Ship to reach the Geographic North Pole. The 13,000-ton ves-
sel is able to ram through up to 21 feet of ice or steam continuously through six feet of ice. It can accommo-
date two HH-65 helicopters and it provides laboratories and sleeping quarters for up to 20 scientists. Duty on an icebreaker can become long and
strenuous....Polar Sea is a significant contribution to the U.S.
Antarctic program that is led by the National Science Foundation. Regular deployments to
Antarctica in support of "Operation Deep Freeze" entail icebreaking, escorting supply vessels
through the ice, and resupplying science stations. Polar Sea provides critical support for a wide
variety of scientific research conducted in Antarctica by U.S. and foreign scientists. The
deployment to Antarctica involves a five to six month odyssey. With 150 men and women, two
helicopters, 1.4 million gallons of fuel
and a year's worth of food aboard, Polar Sea can remain
underway for long periods...Polar Sea also completed an 11-day, 52-mile
channel break through ice more than 13-feet thick, accomplishing the longest, single-ship
channel break-in since 1963

The nation's two heavy-duty icebreakers sit sidelined in Seattle, home of the Coast Guard's three-ship icebreaker fleet. The Polar Sea and its twin, the Polar Star, are 1970s-era cutters that have been patched up to keep going past their original life span.

Polar Sea's three shafts are each turned by either a two diesel-electric or one gas turbine power plants. Each shaft is connected to a 16-foot (4.9-m) diameter, four-bladed, controllable-pitch propeller. For all three shafts, the diesel-electric plants can produce a total of 18,000 shaft horsepower (13,425 kilowatts) and the gas turbine plants a total of 75,000 demand shaft horsepower (56 MW) or 60,000 continuous horsepower (44.8 MW)

Polar Star has a variety of missions while operating in polar regions. During Antarctic deployments, the primary missions include breaking a channel through the sea ice to resupply the McMurdo Research Station in the Ross Sea. Resupply ships use the channel to bring food, fuel, and other goods to make it through another winter. In addition, to these duties, Polar Star also serves as a scientific research platform with five laboratories and accommodations for up to 20 scientists.
Tom Nelson: [Note that the warmist icebreaker above is not the more modest warmest icebreaker Laurier, which can only hold one million *litres* of fuel]
The Laurier can carry one million litres of fuel
