Perth and Cannes and Hawaii and Canberra and Indonesia, oh my: Fossil-fuel fighter Gillard faces a grueling month of bicycling

Gillard buys some time with a round-the-world ticket
Over the next four weeks, Julia Gillard's feet will hardly touch the ground.

Last night, the Prime Minister flew to Perth for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, or CHOGM.
...
Two days after CHOGM, Gillard will fly to Cannes, France, for the Group of 20 leaders meeting where the disintegrating European economy and its consequences for the rest of us will be front and centre.

A week after the G20, Gillard heads to Hawaii for the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation summit, or APEC, where the main item will be trying to nail down the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a de facto regional free trade arrangement. It arose out of the realisation that a global free trade agreement is never going to happen and has become a waste of time and effort, and something more achievable should be pursued.

A few days after APEC, Gillard will host the US President, Barack Obama, in Canberra, where he will address a specially convened sitting of Parliament.

Then both will head to Indonesia for the East Asia Summit, another regional dialogue although, unlike APEC, with a security focus.
