I disagree with your comments.
1. The entire carbon of ALL participants was covered in a carbon fund to a project in India with http://www.theconvergingworld.org/
2. At last years event an agreement was reached to stop shark fishing in the Maldives, re-balancing the ecosystem.
3. Expect to hear agreements for MW's of clean power and other deals coming about because of the symposium.
All this will lead to a massive net reduction in carbon because of the event. However, I believe scrutiny from the public is a good thing. As events (especially the very large ones, which this is not) should ensure they create results that far outweigh the carbon they consume.
