James E. Hansen, director of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies and eminent climate scientist has been against the Kyoto Protocol since he boycotted the 2009 Climate Change Conference that advocated it.
He said; "The developed nations want to continue basically business as usual so they are expected to purchase indulgences to give some small amount of money to developing countries. "They do that in the form of offsets and adaptation funds.”

Commenting on the report, Greenpeace Africa climate campaigner Melita Steele says that one of the “true tragedies of government and Eskom’s continued addiction to coal is the fact that notwithstanding the future risks, coal has failed to deliver electricity to many South Africans, with at least 2.5 million homes still denied access to electricity”.
Peele agrees. “A lot of South Africans don’t have power, that is because Eskom’s main central grid is not as sufficient as it says it is. But by introducing wind and solar, this can change. We can ultimately get more people on to the grid.”
