Another theme I’m hearing as I watch the Chu hearing live is that Solyndra going bankrupt is China’s fault because China was able to make similar solar panels cheaper than Solyndra could.

Well, duh. That’s kind of what China does. It’s why, when making a VC investment, you look to see if the company you want to invest in has a competitive advantage that would keep a competitor, in say China, from stealing what you do and doing it cheaper. Solyndra had no such competitive advantage and the loan never should have been made.
