Public advised to "Keep Warm, Keep Well" this winter

According to figures from the Met Office, last December was the coldest in the UK since 1910, and the winter before was the coldest since 1978.

Fairbanks International Airport recorded a temperature of 35 degrees below zero Tuesday night, a new record low. Overnight temperatures were expected to reach 37 below Wednesday night, warming up to 30 below Thursday night. Daytime temperatures for Friday, the last day of the event, are expected to reach a balmy 19 degrees below zero.

Ireland: Climate change relegated

IT must be very frustrating for those concerned about the effects of climate change to see the issue relegated towards the bottom of the political agenda by the government, as Environment Minister Phil Hogan has chosen to prevaricate and conduct a review of national climate policy rather that enacting legislation on the lines drawn up by the Green Party before their ignominious exit from government last January and subsequent annihilation at the polls in the general election.
