The "Cause" mentioned in the emails is "Contraction and Convergence". Google it.
In general, the incompetent climate scientists want to fire or ruin anyone who exposes their shoddy work for what it is.
Since this email was written CUP has published the Stern Report, the IPCC and Garnaut reports and Mike Hulme's "Why we disagree about climate science" to name but a few supporting the AGW scam.
CUP is known for the strength of it's Earth Sciences list.
