As stomachs turn, audience turns off | thetelegraph.com.au
When arts folk bludgeon us with global warming fear, as with sympathy for David Hicks, they are determinedly running behind the curve. The Columbia Journalism Review reported last week that a website monitoring global media coverage of climate change found a 20 per cent decline from 2011 to 2010 and a 42 per cent decline since the subject's peak in 2009.
People are sick of being lectured, and media is increasingly aware that audiences won't cop it. There were two telling exceptions: "The Sydney Morning Herald with a 21 per cent jump from 2010. And the Australian Broadcasting Corporation increased its climate coverage by 60 per cent."
For both outlets, the stage is tipping. Bring the popcorn.
