The map above shows HadCRUT land based data for June, 1865. Half of the stations were above the mean and they had less than 10% coverage, yet HadCRUT reports -0.267 anomaly for that month. Most of Asia and North America may well have been above the mean.

Like GISS, HadCRUT trends are a complete joke. They have no idea whether the 19th century was colder or warmer than the 1970s. There isn’t enough data to determine the polarity, much less a temperature with precision of 0.001 degrees.
