UPDATE 2-China bans airlines from joining EU emissions scheme | Energy & Oil | Reuters

BEIJING, Feb 6 (Reuters) - China on Monday barred its airlines from joining an EU scheme that could charge for carbon
emissions from flights in and out of Europe, escalating a global trade row over the taxing of foreign carriers.

The hardening of the dispute, which comes a week before Chinese and EU leaders hold a summit, could eventually subject
Chinese airlines to fines or prohibitions on use of EU airports.

- Bishop Hill blog - Climate authorities

Belgian climatologist Michel Crucifix has published an interesting post about climatologists' engagement with the wider world. There's a bit of a language barrier here - Prof Crucifix's English is in need of a polish - but he seems to be saying that we "deniers" (yes, he uses the d-word) should show a bit more respect because he's the expert.

I believe, as a climate scientist, that there is not benefit to be gained from engaging discussion with an individual or with a group if my authority is not acknowledged.

Post-Huhne Climate Politics? » Climate Resistance

The establishment’s vacuity and credulity towards environmentalism, and its cynical regard for the public and democracy allows ambitious but hollow individuals to embarrass it, while stamping their mark on public policy. The ascendency of these mediocre personalities through the party ranks must speak about the dearth of ideas, talent, and vision. And this is echoed in the broader inability to challenge environmentalism. This is what creates men like Huhne (and Miliband). Little will change by his departure. Huhne’s replacement may be more sober, and perhaps less self-serving, but will that be sufficient to stop the absurdities of UK and EU energy and climate policies, the dodgy relationships between governments and NGOS, and the excesses of UNFCC process? It seems unlikely.

HADCrut Global Trend Is Garbage | Real Science

During the “cold” year of 1862, HADCrut’s thermometers covered less than 10% of the Earth, yet they report temperature anomalies from 1862 within 0.001C. Their reported precision is about five orders of magnitude larger than their accuracy. What a complete joke.

"European policy innovations have created a vibrant renewables industry..." -sfgate.
What utter hogwash. Billions and trillions of $ Euros poured down the drain as subsidies to wind farms and other economically unproductive green schemes doesn't lead to a vibrant economy, it leads to bankruptcy! Duh.
