Endangered Primate Offers Clues to Climate Change | Africa | English

Conditions now appear similar to what happened 3,000 to 5,000 years ago.  [well before I bought my iPhone charger]

allAfrica.com: South Africa: Visitors, Invasive Species and Climate Change Threaten Pristine Antarctica

Climate change over the next 100 years in Antarctica is expected to be spatially variable, with most regions of the continent cooling at first and then warming as the ozone hole recovers. Some areas of the Peninsula will continue to warm.

Anthropogenic-CO2-Induced Global Warming: Proven or Unproven?

Clearly, the weight of real-world evidence continues to suggest that it is the recurrent millennial-scale cycling of earth's mean global air temperature that has been responsible for the bulk of the warming of the 20th century, which could yet continue its upward course, level out, or begin a slow decline; for this phenomenon has created such warmings and subsequent coolings time and time again without any help from mankind. And if it's done so before - innumerable times, in fact - it can do it again. In fact, it has actually got to be expected that it would do so, and at about this point in earth's history.

Tom -

NOTHING in science is proven until it is challenged and successfully meets that challenge.

Sometimes that challenge is a falsification experiment.

Once put out, a hypothesis also has to run the gauntlet of opposing scientists.

But the first challenge should be the proposers themselves. In Richard Feynman's "Cargo Cult Science" CalTech speech of 1974 he strongly points out how they need to challenge their work as much as anyone else might - before ever publishing.

So, any scientific proposition has to run three gauntlets - self critiquing, peer challenges and then empirical experiments.

And even then, it still isn't proven. When it is proven, it will become a Law. Nothing is ever proven. It can at best have the real world strongly be consistent with the idea. Look at Newtonian physics - It fit everything in the 'real' world, and then Einstein has a few "thought experiments", and Newton is shown to be inadequate. And if Newton's work isn't proven.

The Laws of Thermodynamics and the Laws of Motion? Give it time; another Einstein will ask, "Well what if we look at it TTIS way?" and throw it all over with some superceding over-arching all-in-one. I expect such an event at any time.

Evidence does not prove; evidence can only 'be consistent with' what is accepted as fact, the Gestalt Paradigm of the times, and then sit on the wall like Humpty Dumpty to await being knocked over and not be put back together again - or at least not in the same way, which is the same thing.

Look back 100 years, 150 years and see how much has been overthrown. The proven of those times is mostly gone now. Should we REALLY expect that OURS will be seen as other than quaint, come another century?

Oh, please, spare me. . . Hubris, thy name is modernity.
