Winter Temperatures On The Decline In Washington DC | Real Science

Lincoln Virginia is the closest USHCN station to Washington DC. Raw maximum winter temperatures there have been declining since the record warm winter of 1931, which was about ten degrees above the mean.

The winter of 2009-2010 was the fourth coldest in the last 80 years.

NASA climate scientist Jay Zwally said: “At this rate, the Arctic Ocean could be nearly ice-free at the end of summer by 2012, much faster than previous predictions.”

Sea ice is currently at an eight year high in the DMI database, so I plotted the expected trajectory to reach ice-free this summer.
