Longest Winter On Record In The Arctic | Real Science

Ignoring NSIDC’s breathlessly incorrect pronouncement about two weeks ago, Arctic ice area reached another maximum today. It has been 200 days since the minimum on September 10, 2011.  If not for the fact that 2012 is a leap year, this would be the first April maximum on record. (That will have to wait until tomorrow.)

It is unlikely that Arctic ice extent will begin to decline four at least four more days. The melt season is already two to three weeks late getting started, and is going to become a big problem for climochondriacs later in the summer.
