Hawaii’s Beaches Are in Retreat, and Way of Life May Follow - NYTimes.com
Sea level does not rise uniformly around the world, and so far, Dr. Fletcher and other geologists said in interviews, Hawaii has escaped some of the rise that has occurred elsewhere as earth’s climate warms. But that situation is unlikely to continue, the report says.

Wow! Octopus DNA, paleoclimate science, "Antarctic Ice Sheet Collapse Recorded In Octopus DNA"! Isn't science cool? bit.ly/J596Ft

That octopus report is making my head hurt. Scientists have checked the DNA of 450 dead (presumably) Turquet octupuses (octopii?) from each side of the West Antarctica ice shelf and found they're very similar. The scientists conclude that in the past the shelf must have melted and the octopii were all around and about and then the sheet froze up again leaving some octopii on one side and some on the other. And from this they conclude that its been way hotter in the past than now...which we knew. But of course the conclusion of the report (or whatever it is) is that climate change is an urgent problem and we must do something. For the children. But if the octopii are fine why wouldn't we be? I just don't get climate science. It seems to me to be absurd.
