More on Extreme Weather and the Greenhouse Effect - NYTimes.com
Martin P. Hoerling, a federal research meteorologist specializing in climate dynamics, faced a lot of pushback after he criticized some assertions made in an Op-Ed article on climate change by James E. Hansen of NASA. One critic is Dan Miller, an engineer and venture capitalist focused on non-polluting energy technologies who blogs on climate at ClimatePlace.org and helped Hansen craft his Times piece. [So I guess we're waiving the rule that said you had to be a climatologist to express an opinion on whether the Earth was overheating?]
♫ Corn Is Busting Out All Over ♫ (Update on Global Warming and the Death of Corn)
The 2012 projected yield of 166 bushels per acre would:
- be a record yield, beating out the 2009 average yield of 164.7 bushels per acre.
- be only the third time in history yields have topped 160 bu/acre, the others being 2009 (164.7) and 2004 (160.4).
- be 35% higher than the average yield from the 1990s and 12% higher than the average yield since 2000.
Let’s Call Them “Hydrocarbon Deniers” | Power Line
John has already noted what ought to have been above-the-fold news in every newspaper last week—the testimony of the GAO’s head of natural resources that the U.S. has recoverable oil shale “about equal to the entire world’s proven oil reserves.” It wasn’t front-page news, however, because it doesn’t fit the liberal narrative and favorite talking point that the U.S. only has “2 percent” of proven global oil reserves.
I suggest we start calling such people “hydrocarbon deniers,” since only a puritanical fixation prevents the sensible exploitation of our own energy resources. (Maybe we should call them “Energy Prohibitionists” as well as “hydrocarbon deniers,” since China and everyone else is going to make use of their hydrocarbon energy.) And anyone who persists in using the “2 percent” talking point again (that would include President Obama) deserves to be labeled an anti-science ignoramus.
Climate hot for the commissioners | Herald Sun Andrew Bolt Blog
I do not approve of heckling or abuse, but it is interesting that the Climate Commissioners are running into heavy resistance:
CLIMATE Commissioner Tim Flannery was drowned out by an interjector at a public forum last night after predicting Sydney’s west faced a future of severe heatwaves, violence and death by rising temperatures.
The protester, dressed in a penguin suit, came into the Parramatta RSL auditorium and called Professor Flannery a “hoax"… The protester drew clapping and booing before he was escorted out by security staff, as another interjector called out: “I can’t believe that you people are listening to this waffle.”
