CONDEMNING his own nation while hailing Australia for acting on climate change, Al Gore received a rock-star reception as he delivering an impassioned plea for a breakthrough to the Bali talks.
Introduced as "fresh from receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, Academy Award winner, former vice-president, senator and congressman and climate change's single most effective messenger to the world," Mr Gore received the first of several standing ovations.
The room was packed with more than 2000 participants, who stood, cheered and strained to take photographs. Hundreds more gathered around television screens throughout the venue.
This was the moment of the conference.
"We, the human species, face a planetary emergency," Mr Gore said. "We cannot afford to wait.
