April 2012: Remarkable statement by Penn State's Peter Buckland on the alleged political power of academic warmists: "[Penn State is] arguably the most powerful institution in the state of Pennsylvania, maybe more powerful than the state government, because it can just tell the state government to go away all the time..."

Changing the Moral Climate on Climate Change - YouTube
A free presentation given on April 30, 2012 at 101 Thomas Bldg. on Penn State's University Park Campus to a live audience.
At the 1:57 mark, "PSU expert" Peter Buckland says "[Penn State is] arguably the most powerful institution in the state of Pennsylvania, maybe more powerful than the state government, because it can just tell the state government to go away all the time.  When you have a university that powerful, the statement that you know like ...climate change is real, we have people that tell us that it is real, and we have to take meaningful action, that pushes other institutions to do thingsAnd it will push the political conversation some.  If you have coalitions of every major research university in the country, saying that and broadcasting it very clearly and then embedding it in everything they do, it will change the civil-, it will change the society."

Actually, I did get Buckman to change the reference to Mann being a Nobel Prize Co-Winner in the final posters and brochure:

Professor Mann is NOT a Nobel Prize co-winner per your promotional piece.
This is a lie by him - if he states it - and a lie by you if you repeat it.

He is entitled to a certificate from the IPCC for participating in the activities that led to its award, but may not be referred to as a "winner".

to me
Brian,
I'd like to say that I'm honored that such a vehement climate denialist as yourself has taken interest in this event.
Send me the print that says that the members of the IPCC - the people who make up the body of the IPCC - may not be labeled as co-winners. There is nothing at the Nobel link that says it.
Cheers!
Peter

to Peter
Well Peter,
In the spirit of bonhomie across the belief divide, I present for your consideration the following "proxy" evidence (tree ring model) that Michael Mann indeed is not a Nobel Prize Winner.

If not a lie, at least it's an exaggeration that would get people fired at my august institution.

Lemon

to me
Lemon,
In the spirit of fairness: "member of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize-winning" IPCC will do.
