The fact is that most scientists seek not to convert themselves but to convert others. That's fair enough, for it's those others who can most objectively judge who has the best case.

Regarding the Aquarium of the Pacific | Video | Dr. Michael Mann, I noticed that Mann says in the very beginning:
"So the hockey stick is a name that was given to a curve that my co-authors and I developed more than a decade ago..."
The video stops playing after this so I can't get the entire context of what he meant by "developed."
Anyway, my point is, if I was a scientist and I looked at data and 'objectively' used statistics properly on the data, graphed the results and it showed a hockey stick, I wouldn't ever say we 'developed' it. I would have said 'it was the result of the data analysis' or something similar.
It sounds as if Mann et all invented the hockey stick. Like when you develop an iPhone app or some medicine...
