RB: It COULD do these things, or worse, or it COULD actually end up being neutral to slightly beneficial or even strongly beneficial, saving our butts from an ice age that might well have begun if the next three to six solar cycles are another Maunder minimum, as at least some solar physicists are predicting (not my field, don’t ask me to place a bet:-).
N-G: I think it already did that, though it’s not clear whether it saved our butts or saved the butts of our descendants 700 years from now. The problem with this beneficial medicine is that we’re now in overdose territory. I don’t think I would have minded 50 ppb above preindustrial. We passed that benchmark around 1970.
