The drought that’s turned most of the United States into a dessicated hotbox may be a symptom of climate change, a brutal blowback from carbon pollution.Quebec wineries basking in warm, dry summer weather
MONTREAL – Simon Naud’s family farm has seen some tough times but now, in a happy by-product of climate change, his winery in the Eastern Townships is having another bountiful year.
Quebec wines in general are expecting another strong crop yield because of the warmer and drier summer, he said. For the third straight year the wines made by more than 60 wineries in the province should be more rounded and full-bodied than usual, boosting their status among other Canadian and world wines.
“This year has been splendid,” said Naud, who owns Vignoble La Bauge, his family’s 7-hectare winery in Brigham, about 90 kilometres southeast of Montreal.
“The warmth came early this spring and it’s still warm.”
