[Bill Blakemore] A number of the world’s professional climate scientists are perplexed by — and in some cases furious with — American news directors.Bill Blakemore flashback
“Malpractice!” is typical of the charges this reporter has heard highly respected climate experts level — privately, off the record — at my professional colleagues over the past few years.
...
A number of climate scientists have told this reporter they agree with those, including NASA scientist James Hansen, who charge fossil fuel CEOs are thus guilty of a “crime against humanity,” given the calamity that unregulated greenhouse emissions are quickly bringing on.
...the molecules of any one puff of invisible greenhouse gas such as carbon dioxide are quickly, the scientists tell us, dispersed around the entire globe.
Thus, everyone on the globe is affected almost immediately by any one greenhouse emission.
....
Manmade global warming is, according to the world’s climate scientists, solidly on track to be far bigger than history’s biggest atrocity so far (“atrocity” here defined as manmade, as discussed in another Nature’s Edge Notebook about “Horrible Things.”
Blakemore, ...reported on August 30, 2006, “After extensive searches, ABC News has found no such [scientific] debate” on global warming

AGW couldn't be worse than eugenics.
It is on track to rival it...
Oh, Bill Blakemore. Please, please, PLEASE learn some history. Communism and fascism killed well over 168,000,000 people since 1917. William Ruckelshaus, by banning DDT, killed or sickened over 500,000,000 people since the early 1970s, many of them infants and children, and wrecked development of sub-Saharan Africa. The spread of Islam destroyed the nations of the Middle East and North Africa over a few hundred years in the first millennium. And you have the nerve to say that "manmade global warming is...solidly on track to be far bigger than history's biggest atrocity so far"? You claim that's claimed by "the world's climate scientists." Either you are completely gullible or they're completely nuts (and given loonies such as Hansen, that's pretty much a certainty) or both. And here's why:
First, the modest level of warming since 1880 is cooler than the Medieval Warm Period by 1 to 2 degrees C. The MWP was cooler than the Roman Warming Period, which was cooler than the Holocene Maximum, which was cooler than the previous 4 interglacial warm periods. All of those vastly exceeded the tiny amount of warming that has taken place since 1880 (and stopped in 1998). Now we are going into another Pacific Decadal Oscillation negative phase and things will be cooling off for at least a couple of decades. There is NOTHING out of the ordinary, except on a scale of the past 2000 years, the trend has been one of cooling, not warming. Second, the level of atmospheric CO2 is currently about the lowest, except for the previous period of glaciation, over most of earth's history. We are way, WAY below the amount needed for optimum plant growth. Anything man can do to boost the level of atmospheric CO2 will only be a good thing in that it will greatly increase food production and will greatly reduce the amount of water needed by growing plants.
