Fish Feces Fights Climate Change : Discovery News
Millions of tiny fish pooping out even tinier turds may have a big impact on climate change. The fish, such as anchovies, feed on single-celled algae that live on the ocean’s surface. A study in Scientific Reports found that the fish feces sink rapidly to the bottom of the ocean, carrying with it the carbon from those algae.

The pH of upwelling waters along the west coast of the US and SAmerica can be 7.9. Gazillions of fish live there as the upwelling water is mineral rich. Same deal on the west coast of BC/Vancouver Island. Apparently THOSE living creatures don't mind a pH less than the barren waters off Mauna Loa.

Chesapeake Bay also has 7.9's, what with the freshwater river bringing in ex-rain water and humic acid from plant life. Another larder for your table.

Maybe the "bad" pH makes the fish poop more.
