BBC HARDtalk - Connie Hedegaard - EU Commissioner for Climate Action (10/10/12) - YouTube
[Remarkable 24-minute video] What has happened to Europe's big ambition to lead the world toward a low-carbon, sustainable future? As austerity bites so doubts intensify about the wisdom of decarbonising the European economy and financing greener growth in the developing world. HARDtalk's Stephen Sackur speaks to the EU Commissioner for Climate Action, Connie Hedegaard. Are Europe's politicians failing the climate change challenge?2007: Vaclav Klaus on BBC HARDtalk
President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Klaus recently faced a BBC interviewer [Sackur] that treated him pretty much as if he was mentally challenged.
At the 11:08 mark, the interviewer asked a question about how Klaus' grandchildren would view their grandfather's views on global warming from the perspective of 2037.
Klaus' response:I'm absolutely sure that in 30 years the issue of global warming will be forgotten. There will be a short period of hysteria; people will laugh at that time saying the people in the year 2007 were totally crazy to speak about global warming because we have now totally different problems...I suppose that in 30 years from now my grandchildren will not remember the issue as you might almost not remember the issue of global freezing, which was in the middle of the '70s the issue of the day...if they would remember, I'm sure they would say that grandfather was right in not putting us on a wrong track.
