Rajendra Pachauri, since 2002 the chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, was named by Yale University President Richard C. Levin to head a new Yale Climate and Energy Institute, YCEI.

In his new half-time position at Yale, Pachauri (who goes by the casual name “Patch”) will continue as IPCC Chair and also remain director general of The Energy and Resources Institute, TERI, in India, a leading research and education center on sustainable development
