David Appell: The Coming International Climate Wars
Arguments just within the U.S. over who gets compensated by whom, and for what, are going to be bad enough. Internationally they're going to be an immense climate clusterf*ck. This is a great time to be a student starting a career in international law.Claim: Trigger for Earth’s last big freeze identified | Watts Up With That?
AMHERST, Mass. – For more than 30 years, climate scientists have debated whether flood waters from melting of the enormous Laurentide Ice Sheet, which ushered in the last major cold episode on Earth about 12,900 years ago, flowed northwest into the Arctic first, or east via the Gulf of St. Lawrence, to weaken ocean thermohaline circulation and have a frigid effect on global climate. "They sound like Neanderthals, denying climate change," said co-host Cornel West, and Smiley said they "deny the science." Toobin compared denying global warming to denying gravity:Is global warming causing aquatic animals to shrink? | FirstpostTOOBIN: Pretending a debate exists when there’s no real debate is not fairness. And this a problem I have frankly with my colleagues and myself in the news media, to pretend that there are two points of view about evolution, to pretend there are two points of view about gravity, to pretend there are two points of view about whether the climate is changing, I don’t think we’re doing our audience any favors. And just because people deny science doesn’t mean they should get the same hearing as people who follow the complete scientific consensus.
London: Global warming is causing aquatic animals to shrink 10 times more than land-dwellers in size, scientists say in the largest study of its kind.
