Paging Thomas Friedman: If China is really so much "greener" than the U.S., why is their pollution problem so much worse than ours?

Pollution In Beijing Today Is Like London's In The Past - NYTimes.com
Last year, Chinese bloggers became outraged over news that their leaders used sophisticated air filters while the populace was left uninformed about the real risks. Protests over polluting factories have erupted across the country, forcing some local officials to back down on industrial projects. In some instances, even the state-run media have accused the government of hiding the exact scale of the pollution.

FRIEDMAN:...Basically what I'm saying is if only our government could get its act together and launch a green revolution with the same persistence, focus, stick-to-it-iveness and direction that China does through authoritarian means. If we could only do that through democratic means –

The real joke is that this dimwit obviously cannot see that western countries developed effective pollution control over the decades since the 40s or 50s.

This dimwit obviously thinks that China's grossly polluted air doesn't actually exist.

Why China will not require well tried and reliable antipollution measures as are routinely deployed here in Australia is a major mystery.

Clean air is essential - in China we were lucky to see a kilometre near major cities and we were there just after the Olympics when a lot of power stations/industry had been shut down.
