THE HOCKEY SCHTICK: New analysis finds EPA grossly exaggerates fuel economy of Chevy Volt
The EPA claims that the Chevy Volt plug-in hybrid obtains 96.3 mpg-equivalent when operated in electric mode, and 37 mpg when operated in gas mode. However, a new analysis based upon realistic assumptions finds only a 4.8% difference in CO2 emissions between gas and electric modes, which would indicate the mpg-equivalent for use as an electric car would be 38.8, about 2.5 times less than the EPA claim of 96.3.
