Don't miss this Steve McIntyre comment on the Marcott hockey stick: "Imagine what Gavin Schmidt would have written if Loehle had redated a core by 1000 years. He’d have run Loehle out of town"

[Steve McIntyre comment] Richard Telford’s comments are always interesting, but in this case, I’m 99.99% sure that he’s holding ranks while privately gnashing his teeth. There’s no possible way that he would endorse Marcott et al’s wholesale redating of specialist cores.

Using CALIB 6.0.1 consistently is one thing, but Marcott et al have done something much different. Richard’s very mild disapproval of the redating of MD95-2011 should speak volumes. But it’s foolish to expect more than that in public discussion. Privately, I’m sure that he would ream Marcott et al out if he had a chance.

Imagine if Craig Loehle or I had produced a reconstruction making a similar re-dating of cores dated by specialists. We’d have had our heads handed to us by the specialist community. Imagine what Gavin Schmidt would have written if Loehle had redated a core by 1000 years. He’d have run Loehle out of town.   [Via Popular Technology]
